Our three days trip to Asturias on June 14-16 was intense. We went by bus.

The “Green Spain”  surprised the students, since many of them didn’t even know it existed, where you can eat and drink extremely well: "fabada" (bean soup), rice pudding, "carbayones" (a kind of cake) and cider are the most well known.

This trip combines the art of Oviedo, where Fausto Zamora -our CIEE Alcalá cultural tour guide- explained a lot of stories, nature of Cangas de Onís -where our hotel was located-  and Gijón's beach.

But the most amazing experience was canoeing/kayaking on the river Sella even with a cloudy day.

CIEE-ALCALÁ- SPRING 2013. FAREWELL LETTER from Sean Delany (Ursinus College)

       P1030837

Leona y gladiador

Dear Cristina,

It's amazing to think that this picture was taken four months ago. How time flies!

Well, I want to thank you for all you've done above and beyond for me in these past few months. You were always available for me like a Spanish mother when I had a problem and you acted as a lioness who challenged me so that I would learn a lot.  And I've definitely learned a lot! You are an amazing director and I cannot imagine there is another one as perfect as you. One of the most influential reasons why I chose the program in Alcalá was you. I still remember the first email I sent to cblanco@ciee.org and you answered all my questions very thoroughly, and then you sent me more emails with links just to help me even more. And I thought, wow, she is certainly not just going to be a director but a great friend. I was not mistaken. It is amazing to think of how many more people you have impacted in a similar way! I hope everything goes well with the new group and I wish you much happiness in the years to come. It was a shame I could not say goodbye before you started your summer orientation 2013 but I will undoubtedly be coming back to Spain and the beautiful Alcalá.  See you soon!

A very big kiss and hug,

The king Sean Delany

Querida Cristina:

¡Sin duda he aprendido mucho! No me equivoqué.

All of the students in the orientation sessions at the Hotel CAMPANILE proved to be strong and resisted the “jet lag” very well, listening to all of the sessions regarding safety in Alcalá, safety for women, health insurance, pre-registration, trips, families, etc.

We went together to buy cell phones at El Corte Inglés, but we could not buy all of them, because there were not enough pre-paid terminals.

As always, the most anticipated moment, but also the one that makes them the most nervous, was meeting their families.
